Where is my survey abstract?

Old Texas deeds describe land by survey and abstract, such as "the J A White Survey, A-749". Pick the county and type the abstract number or the survey name.

About these maps

305,840 survey abstracts in all 254 Texas counties, drawn August 31, 2026 from the Railroad Commission's survey map layer, with town names from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2025 TIGER/Line files for orientation.

The survey layer is a locator, not a land survey. It does not show the tracts inside an abstract, who owns them, or any lease.

Where coverage is thinner

In 6 counties the survey layer covers less than 85 percent of the county's land: Andrews (69.6 percent), Aransas (75.9 percent), Crockett (79.4 percent), Hudspeth (75.5 percent), Reagan (71.2 percent), Ward (84.5 percent). An abstract missing there may simply not be drawn. For 9 counties the share was not measured: Anderson, Cherokee, Freestone, Houston, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Rains and Robertson.

In 7 counties the source layer could not read every digit of some abstract numbers, which show with a "?": Anderson (26), Cherokee (37), Freestone (17), Houston (50), Madison (18), Rains (12) and Robertson (12). Search those by survey name; a number search lists them only as possible matches.

The Texas General Land Office keeps the original land grant files by county and abstract number, and the answer links to its search.

Want help reading it?

Landman Help works for owners: it reads the record with you, explains what it means for your lease, deed or check, and tells you what to ask the operator or payor.

Only if you want to sell

If you are thinking about selling, Mineral Land is where to ask for an offer. It is Our Landmen LLC buying for its own account: the buyer across the table, not your representative. Nothing here sends your search there, and asking for help reading a record is not a request to sell.
